Welcome to Worship - March 4, 2012

Treasuring Jesus Christ Together
Welcome to Worship March 4, 2012

Our Mission is to treasure Jesus Christ above all else, obeying His Word, showing His glory, and sharing His story with people near and far.

•Welcome! Worship Offerings. Prayer
•Hymn 243, Crown Him with Many Crowns
•Bible Reading: Philippians 2: 5-11
•Hymn 244, At the Name of Jesus
•Sermon, Pastor Dean Brooks

•Conversations and refreshments!

Child Evangelism Fellowship Dinner, yesterday
Praise the Lord, we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon fellowship with Jessie Lofton, CEF worker in Eastern Maine, plus Paula Maker, Lacie Craven, and Michaela Wood who serve 50 children each Friday in the Good News Club at Elm Street School.

The Bible in 2012:
Know it in your head,
Stow it in your heart,
Show it in your life,
Sow it in the world!

Bible Reading, Philippians 2:5-11

Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus,
Who, existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God
as something to be used for His own advantage.

Instead He emptied Himself
by assuming the form of a slave,
taking on the likeness of men
.

And when He had come as a man in His external form,
He humbled Himself by becoming obedient
to the point of death— even to death on a cross.

For this reason God highly exalted Him
and gave Him the name
that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee will bow —
of those who are in heaven and on earth
and under the earth —
and every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

We are people saved by God’s mercy!
We love God and love people by His grace through fulfilling His six purposes for us:
  • Worshiping our Father and Jesus our Savior;
  • Praying at all times and in the Spirit, for all people;
  • Loving one another as Jesus has loved us;
  • Teaching disciples to obey all God’s commands;
  • Serving people with God’s love by doing good;
  • Sharing God’s Good News about Jesus Christ.

Good News for Every Person
God says when we believe in His son, Jesus, we will live forever with Him in glory. "For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." [John 3:16]
Will you believe in Him and receive the gift of eternal life that Jesus provides for you? Here is a summary of what this means:
■ I acknowledge I am a sinner in need of a Savior - this is to repent or turn away from sin.
■ I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead - this is to trust that Jesus paid the full penalty for my sins.
■ I confess Jesus as my Lord and my God - this is to surrender control of my life to Jesus.
■ I receive Jesus as my Savior forever - this is to accept what God has done for me and in me that which He promised.

The Bible:
Know it in your head, Stow it in your heart,
Show it in your life, Sow it in the world!

Our Bible study meets each Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and ends about 3:45 PM. The apostle Paul wrote to his friend Timothy: “...Train yourself in godliness, for the training of the body has a limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance. In fact, we labor and strive for this, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of everyone, especially of those who believe.” 1 Tim 4:7-10 (HCSB)
We invite you to participate in our ongoing study of First Thessalonians.  The title is A Spiritual Road Map in a Mixed Up World.  In these studies we unpack such important topics as spiritual growth, discipleship, pure motives, spiritual reproduction, and love for people. Also, we will study living a life of sexual purity; living as insiders and reaching outsiders; spiritual laziness; small group living; and preparing for the return of Jesus Christ. In the corresponding study guides we will use the thought-provoking questions and discussions that engage us in deeper study, application, and prayer.

Pray for Our Nation
• Pray that believers and church leaders will desire spiritual change in our communities and will have compassion for all who are lost.
• Pray that Christians will develop and use their gifts to minister in the community and the church as the Holy Spirit leads.

Casinos and Gambling
Carroll Conley, executive director of the Christian Civic League of Maine, commented in a recent newspaper article:  Addiction is the biggest problem for the Civic League’s Carroll Conley. “Put aside the basic moral question for a moment,” Conley said. “Don’t think about gambling as a moral issue; think about the morality of the economics. We are counting on making money off of someone’s inability to control themselves. We are paving our roads and fixing our schools on the backs of someone’s addiction.”

Please Join Us Today at 4 PM! [or 2:30!]

Treasuring Jesus Christ Together
Welcome to Worship

at First Baptist Church, E. Machias,
October 9, 2011, 4 PM      [or 2:30 for Bible study!]

Our Mission is to treasure Jesus Christ above all else,
obeying His Word, showing His glory,
and sharing His story with people near and far.

Today's worship service details:
•Welcome,  Offerings, Prayer
•Our Bible reading: a Scripture Reading Medley:
  • Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
  • He Himself has suffered, being tempted, [and] He is able to aid those who are tempted.
  • Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
  • But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
  • Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Pray, "Do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one."
  • God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.  Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Matt. 4:1; Heb. 2:18; James 1:13-15; Mark 14:38; Luke 11:2, 4; 1Cor. 10:13; Heb. 4:16)
• Hymn

Next Tuesday- 5:30 p.m. Let’s Pray Together!
Next Sunday-  2:30p.m. Newcomers are welcome to our sixth Bible study in 1 Thessalonians!

Praise the Lord for $90.00 given here last week on short notice to send 15 Bibles to Chinese Christians who can’t find or buy Bibles because of Communist restrictions on Bible printing and sales. This will be done through Voice of the Martyrs ministry. VOM plans to send us the names of the 15 recipients so that we may pray for them personally.

Today in History
On October 9, 1635, Roger Williams was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for preaching that civil government should not interfere with religious freedom. Being banished, Williams wandered into the wilderness and purchased land from Native Americans where he founded the city of Providence, Rhode Island. Williams soon developed Baptist convictions and founded the first Baptist church in North America.
